I am from India but currently reside in U.S.
and will be here for another couple of years . I pay here ssn tax as per the rule in this country .
Do you know, by any chance, is there any possibility that ,
the ssn tax/contribution i pay here in U.S. can be linked to my India’s ssn account once i go back to India .

SSN in INDIA is Govt project and will take years before it will happen, like most of the govt things.
Even if its implemented, there is no possibility that it will be linked to US SSN.

SSN stands for social security number. People in the US are assigned this unique number as an identity proof. It’s considered as confidential and not to be shared with others.
Indian govt. also came up with this idea some years back, but as expected, the idea hasn’t been implemented yet.

SSN is social security number in US. USA companies would be asking for a US SSN only.
As such there is no equivalent of SSN in India.

SSN stands for Social security number.
In USA, unique SSN is issued to persons residing there. Its helpful in verification while applying to jobs, bank accounts, credit cards and lots of other places.
SSN in INDIA is Govt project which will replace EPF (Provident fund) account numbers but it will take some time to implement.

Few days back I had a word with my HR, he said SSN project has been scraped.
Is it true.

I had even applied 1.5 Years back and got nothing till now.
It might be true that the project is scraped like any other government project. Govt officials must eaten enough money in name of SSN planning. Now they will plan something else.

I am in USA and I wanted to withdraw PF from my previous Indian employer. They have sent a SSN form. Do I need to apply SSN to withdraw my PF.
I don’t think that you need to fill SSN for withdrawal. You have to fill and submit form 10c for that.
Don’t you guys think that SSN can be a big trap…like US citizens are already got into?
It is like numbers allotted to the person thinking they are like robot and at the end govt. can control your all assets – what r u going?–how much money do u have?….n’ all stuff!!
You’ll not have privacy at all from any govt. agency…!!
So, I think we should not have SSN…rather the PAN number or something like that is OK…..which is just a identification number instead of any personal account/fund information leakage!!!
BTW, anybody can have a PAN number ….. it is just a identification!!

US universities might be asking SSN number for USA. Once you go there then only you can apply for it.
It should not be a compulsory requirement for students going to study in USA.

It should not be compulsory for non-US citizens. They must be asking SSN of US and it can be only got while living in US.

SSN process was started by EPF department 4-5 years back, but it never took shape. We don’t see any progress on that so far.
