With Online filing coming to picture, processing time will come down and it will easier and faster to get passport in India.
TATA consultancy services (TCS) has got the Passport deal from Govt beating Wipro, 3i Infotech and Spanco.
This new project is called The Passport Seva Project. There will be new passport filiing centres (Passport Seva Kendras) in country.
TCS will help in increasing operational efficiency and to scale the infrastructure using technologies from Adobe, IBM, CMC and others. All passport offices will be connected on a network, with police as well for verification status. There will also a call center for query resolution.

You can apply for passport under Tatkal if you want passport early.

I had renewed my passport in February 2010 after the 10 year expiry through TATKAl. I had furnished my 10th , 12th certificates and also my Pan Card. In spite of this I have been endorsed with a ECR. Now I have got a job in the UAE and need to remove the enforsement, could you please let me know how long this would take and what are the procedures

Hi Pankaj, I am SatavahanaReddy from AndhraPradesh. I applied for my Passport on 14 th Sep 2010. Till now i didn’t get my Passport. Police verification was also clear. I am renewing my minor son’s passport here in UAE. The question is, passport contains the name of my Ex-wife as the mother name. is it possible to remove the x-wife name from the mothers name and my new wife’s name can come instead.

In event of remarriage after divorce, the biological parent’s names will only be entered in the passport. However, if the stepfather/stepmother is appointed by the court as a legal guardian, the name of such stepparent can be written as legal guardian. In the event of remarriage after death of the spouse the name of stepfather/stepmother may be written in the passport against the column of father/mother.
You will have to apply with passport renewal with these changes in details.

can i get new passport,if i have emergency certificate with deport?
I am remarried after the death of my wife (death certificate with me). Biological mother’s name(my first wife) is written in the birth certificate of my son (certificate with me). I wish to put my second wife’s name as the mother of my child in Indian passport.(Hindu marriage registration certificate with me). While applying for a fresh passport for my son, Gujarat regional passport authority is reluctant to put the step mother’s name as his mother. My son is minor(only 8 yrs of age). He knows that my second wife is his mother. This is true as his biological mother died after giving birth.(they had never seen each other)and my second wife raised the baby since infant. How to resolve this problem? I do not want to hide or suppress any fact.
