1. Axill Europe Ltd, a subsidiary of Northgate Technologies Ltd, has announced plans to invest up to Rs 25 crore (about € 3 million ) in bharatstudent.com.
2. The company claimed that within two months of the launch of the site, around 1.4 million had been registered with them (How it can be possible). They spammed on scraps and porn messages posted by females names in orkut as in orkut anybody can do that and got so many new users from there. just search orkut topics for ” tinyurl nude ” and you will get the list of topics where you will found many “tinyurl” links which will redirect you to BharatStudent.com. They also spammed in yahoo groups.
3. Web information company Alexa has placed BharatStudent.com at No. 34 in its list of the 100 most popular Internet sites in India (http://www.alexa.com/site/ds/top_sites?cc=IN&ts_mode=country?=none ). I don’t think alexa has correct data as many of these top sites are junk. The site has had over 30 million page views.
4. There is no activation link sent in emails, one can create an account with any email Id and start using that login without even owning that email id. 100s of people who never registered, but received an email with their password. Since their registration form doesn’t send an activation email, they are free to bulk register anyone they want without their permission.
5. Started having ads (on home page itself, there is big indiaplaza.in ad) so early.

7. Launched on 10th of March at Taj Lands End, Mumbai by Priyanka Chopra. BharatStudent.com says it has 1.4 million (seems to be fake count) registered users.
8. Have same concept of scrapbook as orkut have. Also shows who visited my profile recently (same as done by orkut). Seems doubtful, I created profile and instantly 2 girls visited my profile. Sensed some fraud. They might be having some internal profiles created and automatically on new user creation, they add that to recent user visit. As a boy is intetested in girl, they may add a girl visit in new male profile and vice versa.
9. Can upload photos as done in orkut.
10. Can send message to other users, same as in orkut.
11. Campus TV (commercialized youtube) – Can upload video and earn 2$ for 1000 unique views as they are showing ads at video start and even if one out of 1000 clicks on ad, their money is received. Any click over and above is profit. May soon feel heat as there too much copyrighted material put up for free (even full hindi movies and songs)
12. Can upload files (xls, doc, pdf) to use it as a online desktop. (Can scan those files and look for profile info)
13. Can also maintain a contact list (again more email ids and addresses)
14. Invite/add friends and create/join groups (same as in orkut)
15. Can create forum and events in groups (same as in orkut)
16. Café Bharat (wallpapers/screensavers/trailers/latest updates from movies/actors/cricket/sports)
17. Study Abroad – clearly an lead gen section. Boast of helping student getting into right college and course. Provide helps for tests (GRE, GMAT), loan, insurance, travel. The site will offer deals on student loans and airline tickets for Indian students travelling overseas, and will soon start processing loans through a tie-up with ICICI Bank
18. Special girl section having recipe of the day, beauty tips, health watch, product reviews, opinion polls, talk of the week.
19. Earn part time:

The first batch of 400 students recruited from various colleges in India would go through a training programme at Hyderabad. All these make BS famous on net. They are paid to post good comments/articles on different discussion groups/formus and blogs so that BS ranking becomes higher. They earn extra incentives for every new friend they register and act as word-of-mouth marketers. They gave away gifts worth Rs 50 lakh in the just 100 days. They have a team of 100 who log in to site every day to feed videos and movie realted content
20. Organised too many events in four months with film stars (priyanka chopra, Vasundhra Das, Zia khan, and sportspersons to attract public. They even started showing TV ads and news even in business newspapers such as Imint.
21. Seems like they will be copying marketplace feature of Facebook. (BharatStudent now plans to introduce features that would enable students buy and sell lecture notes, used mobile phones and motor bikes.)
22. It looks like a rumour created by themselves that Yahoo and MSN are looking to buy Bharatstudent.com
Cheap tricks, It sucks.
