  1. Dear Sir,
When I am trying to fill up IR2 form I am not able to get correct computation of tax. In house property section ffor my home loan interest for house under construction it is computing the loss for this year. How to correct it to carry forward it for next year?
    thank you
    Govind Kalena

    • @Govind
There is no need to mention home loan interest before possession.
Once you receive possession, all interest paid before that can be claimed in five equal installment in next five years starting from possession year.
This one fifth portion will be added to actual year’s interest and maximum allowed limit will remain 1.5 lakh in case of a self-occupied house.

I want to declare my investments while filing my IT return. I downloaded the form ITR 1 from the income tax website. But in this ITR1 form, i do not see any column for declaring my investments. Can you please guide me how to do this part?

    • @Aastha
You can declare your investments under various sections like 80-C, 80-D etc in ITR form.
In ITR1 excel, inside ‘Income Details’ sheet, under ‘Deductions under Chapter VI A (Section)’ there is provision to provide value for same.

  8. Hi,
Can u pls tell me where we have to submit investment proofs while filing income tax return online?

I had submitted all investment proofs in my co. in Nov’10 and all those investments are there in Form 16, which i have recently received. I have taken a insurance policy in Feb’11 and I want to add in investments while filing tax return online.

Pls let me know do i really need to submit investment proof for the insurance policy premium made?

    • @Priyank
No tax saving proof/document need to be submitted with income tax return.
There is provision in ITR to provide deduction under different sections (80-C, 80-D etc). Please use those section to declare your investments.

      • Hi Pankaj,
Just wanted to know if my investment details are not mentioned in form 16 as I lately invested and tax got deducted. Now want to file return. How they IT dept. will verify my investment if I dont submit valid investment proof..? Please tell me.

        • @Rakesh
Income tax return works on declaration.
In case some information is found incorrect, legal action can be taken by IT department as you sign on below wordings in income tax return form:
“I solemnly declare that to the best of my knowledge and belief, the information given in the return thereto is correct and complete and that the amount of total income and other particulars shown therein are truly stated and are in accordance with the provisions of the Income-tax Act, 1961, in respect of income chargeable to Income-tax for the previous year relevant to the Assessment Year 2011-12.”

  9. Thanks Pankaj.
One more query: There is a column which says “Return filed under section:” There is a drop down to fill this field. How do i know the correct value that has to be selected for me?

    • @Aastha
There are different sections. Please read below for explanation of each:
u/s 139(1) : Voluntarily/original return. Most of the time it will be used as it caters to original return. Return filed within due date (31st July of Assessment year)
u/s 139(4) : Belated return filing. Original return filed after due date (After 31st July of Assessment year) Or return filed after notice from income tax department within time provided in notice under section 142(1).
u/s 139(5) : Revised return. In case some correction needs to be done in original return filed u/s 139(1) or after notice issued by IT department for correction. Time frame is within one year from end of assessment year or before the assessment is completed, whichever is earlier.
      u/s 142(1), u/s 148 and u/s 153A/153C : Notice is issued by IT department under this section.

  10. Hi Pankaj
I had a query, once i get a copy of ITR-V do I need to attach a copy of Form 16 along with this while sending it across to IT department. Do copies of reciepts for purpose of tax saving need to be attached as well?

    Regards,

  11. Hi Pankaj,

I had one more query what shall be the assesment year-2010-11 or 2011-12 for purpose of tax filed from period 01-04-2010 to 31-03-2011

  12. After a long search i found where to find ward/circle no (Thanks to you ) . But there are many details dispalyed, what among these should i fill in ITR1 (Income Tax Ward / Circle)?

    Area Code
    AO Type
    Range Code
    AO Number
    Jurisdiction

Could you please guide me? And moreover i have one more doubt, should i use my permanent address for tax filing or place i am employeed and living for last one year. Please guide.

  13. Hi,

How do we enter details from two form 16 into the ITR1 form.
I shifted to a new company in the month of April 2010, so i have two forms now, one from previous company and one from the new company.

Pls suggest how to fill the ITR1 form in this situation.

  14. For ITR form 1, Income tax ward / circle as given by PAN is different from where I submit the returns. I post my returns to bangalore office. The ward as per PAN is not in bangalore. What should be filled in IT ward / circle.

    • @Ram
You might have shifted to a new place after filing initial returns from a different location.
As of now, you can leave ward/circle field empty and provide your current address in provided home address field. This jurisdiction will automatically changed to match your current address.

  15. SUBJECT:
”Proceedure for filing returns,(Tax deducted because of no PAN)—-ITO WD(4),Thane.”

This is for my mother who is 77 years of age, unemployed and has a Fixed deposit account in a reputed bank.

She received a letter from the bank H.O stating that a tax of 2000+ Rs. was deducted as the said office did not have her PAN number.

Application for ‘PAN’ was made on the 8th of January,2011 along with Form 15-H,after the bank brought this to our notice.

She also received her ‘PAN’ card by courier in February.
The whole purpose of the above activity was to save on ‘TAX’.
The ‘PAN’ office & the ‘IT’ office are inter-related and it is surprising to note that they do not co-ordinate among themselves.

Neither the Bank takes any accountability of informing its customers by mail, letter, phone or personally.(—-merely send alerts through ”MOBILE” for the elderly—Mother, does not have a mobile of her own).

Please let me know how i can claim this refund, and also get compensated for the delay, expenditure and the unnecessary stress involved?.

  16. Hi,
